HIV Wellness and Nutrition

People living with HIV AIDS are living longer, healthier lives today, thanks to new and effective treatments. This site will help you understand how you can live with HIV and keep yourself healthy

If you or a loved one suffer from HIV, HIV wellness and nutrition is a high priority. Chances are, an HIV sufferer is going to be taking medication and suffering loss of energy. By maintaining proper nutrition, you can ensure that the side effects of these medications, and your loss of energy, are minimal.

Nutrition can be split into two main groups - Macro-nutrients and micro-nutrients.

To put it simply, macro-nutrients provide calories containing energy. This means proteins, carbs and fats. Macro-nutrients are absolutely vital for maintaining body weight, strength, and high energy levels.

Micro-nutrients provide vitamins and minerals, which are vital for healthy cell function.

Macro-Nutrients

When it comes to HIV wellness and nutrition, you need a strong balance of both macro-nutrients and micro-nutrients. Without vitamins and minerals, your body won't be as capable of distributing those proteins and fats where they need to go, and without those proteins and fats, you'll lose considerable body weight, making you more susceptible to illness and injury.

The best sources for proteins should be obvious - meats, fish, poultry, etc. However, many people neglect the importance of beans, nuts and seeds. Vegetable proteins can be preferable for many reasons, as they tend to be easier to digest than meats.

When it comes to fats, it's a good idea to stick to unsaturated fats, such as those found in nuts, seeds, olive oil, and even fish. Saturated fats, such as those found in butter, should be kept to a minimum.

Micro-Nutrients

What about a Immune System Supplements? As a rule, it's usually best to obtain nutrients from food. But even HIV positive people who eat well can have low levels of various important nutrients -- at a time when their nutrition needs to be increased -- and thus benefit from supplementation.

Water, Water Everywhere

And of course, the most important advice for HIV wellness and nutrition, or just general health: Drink a whole lot of water.

Drinking water will help you to maintain high energy levels and keep your head clear from any medication side effects. It doesn't matter how you get your water, juice, tea, coffee, sports drinks, etc. Soda should probably be kept to a minimum, but even soft drinks contain plenty of water. Keeping well hydrated is the number one key to any healthy lifestyle.

The Wellness Project provides the highest quality micro-nutrient supplements to people with serious medical conditions,
at the lowest possible cost.
